Poppy Road consists of alto/lead Tina Lawson, baritone/pianist Bryan Glenn and alto/contralto Priscilla Glenn. Combined, they have 168 years experience of singing and playing Gospel music in one form or another. The original lineup and group was founded by Jim Profitt. Jim sang with his family for years, but stepped out of the spotlight after the untimely passing of his wife, Shirley. But, the fire and passion never left him, nor did the calling on his life. In early 2021, he asked his longtime friend Tina Lawson, if she would be interested in traveling and singing with him as a group, so they formed PROFITT and sang a few dates before realizing they needed to record a new CD with some of Jim’s previously recorded songs, plus a few of Tina’s favorites. So in August and September 2021, they recorded “Continuing The Journey”, and it took off from there. In April, 2022, Jim asked another longtime friend, Bryan Glenn, if he would consider joining him as “the third PROFITT”, and he accepted. March 2025 brought along Bryan’s wife, Priscilla, who started traveling with us whenever Jim couldn’t make it.
Jim knew it was time to take a step back because of his health, so he asked to be replaced. We honored his request by making Priscilla a permanent member of the group. He went through a rough time with his health, but he’s made an impressive comeback. So much so, he decided to go out on his own and minister as a solo artist, and has done really well for himself.
This prompted us to change our name to Poppy Road, which is the street on which Russ and Tina live. It’s actually Poppy Drive, but they thought Poppy Road sounded better. Go figure lol. We all agreed it was better than Covey Place, which is the street that Bryan and Priscilla live. We didn’t want to be known as a covey of quail.
Since then, God has blessed them with another upcoming CD project and more bookings, so it can be said that they are wide open and ready for what God has in mind. They have only one goal and mindset; to see lost souls come to know Jesus as their Savior and to bring comfort and hope to those who are hurting.
